Is holding back someone you love from leaving you,
- A proof of love?
or
- A selfish move?

It's proof of love, no doubt about that.

But if that person really wants to be away from you - it would be kind of selfish to hold on.

I would say both...It's a proof of love cuz if u hold someone back it means u really want him/her to stay with u..
And it's kinda Selfish, cuz when u hold someone back, you only think about urself...
But what if the person you love says she/he still loves you?
Then, I think you have more reasons that make you wanna hold back that person from leaving you..That's my opinion..What about urs guys?

I don't think it's proof in itself.
It's possible to want someone to stay with you even if you don't love them. Relationships are funny that way, a lot of people get a kick out of having power over another person.

But sure, it can also mean you really love that person...

If he or she really loved you, why would he/she want to leave you? I think people often say things like that to make it less painful for the other person. (Plus "love" might have more than one meaning, you know. Maybe she means she loves you as a friend...)

The real story is that...We live far from each other, and we don't often see each other...
She's still with me, she still loves me, I know it, I feel it, she also told me many times..And I REALLY do love her :-)

I hope things will work out for you, Fanny.

You know, they usually do in the end...

A friend of mine used to say, what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger. There is some truth in that.

Long distant relationship eh? I had one myself that lasted a year. It absolutely devasted me that we couldn't be closer - and like you Darksky, she told me several times that she loved me - and I absolutely loved her. The time we actually spent together was very special to me and I'll never forget it for as long as I live. But we both knew when it was time to end it. We lead seperate lives now, but still keep in contact, and still listen to eachothers problems.

If you let her go - it will hurt at first. It took me months to get over the fact that I'll never hold her in my arms again. But if you can somehow manage to stay friends and stay in contact, it'll make it so much easier.

I know how it feels to miss someone...I know how it feels to say goodbye at the airport, eyes filled with tears...Only not trying to cry in front of everybody...
But still, not gonna break up...It's not time to.

Good for you. If you both feel it's worth hanging on to, then go for it!

And don't ever worry about trying not to cry in front of people. I was a 31 year old man who burst into tears in front of my own mother when my girl had to fly back to Italy. :-D
