I guess he means Unforgivable Sinner.
I wonder how many fans still are out there keeping silent for so many years, and how many still are very affectionated like jekil. She selled 1 million copies with PMG, so there should be at least some thousands fans...

Well when 'Sitting down here' was released here in the UK all those years ago I wasnt really interested in music, but I liked the song and it stuck in my head for ages. Eventually however I forgot about it and Lene until the end of 2003 when one day I went into a shop and 'Sitting down here' was playing and I thought 'now who's song is that again?' so when I got home I did a search and found lene-marlin.no as well as this site, bought both albums and got the Dvd for Xmas 2004, and have been a fan ever since |

I remember it was in August 1999 when I heard "Sitting down here" on radio and I immediately fell in love with the song and the singing.
As soon as possible I bought the single.
Half a year "Unforgivable Sinner" was released as a single in Germany. Just like "Sitting down here" I loved this song.
On April 18th, I went to a CD shop, took the album "Playing my Game", turned to the service point and listened to it by headphones. I really thought I was in another world.
I didn't buy it but I got it as a present for Easter (23rd April, 2000).
To me, Lene is the most hopeful artist in the past 5 years. Unfortunately she doesn't have the success in Germany she really earns. But who really wonders about German musical taste?
Regards,
Martin.

Hi Daniel,
you say it but I did not know if the song is known in this forum. Besides I thought it is really better if no one else in the world knows what a song is number one in Germany. I mean it's a real disgrace. When I look at the German top 10 single charts, I must say, the only song I really like is "Und wenn ein Lied/and if a song" by Söhne Mannheims/Sons of Mannheim.
The rest is total rubbish.
Regards,
Martin.

Hi Marko,
certainly, you mean LeneMarlinWeb.de? No, I haven't been the webmaster of this page. But I had posted over a year in the community forum of this page. The webmaster is Sebastian Nikolai from Hannover. In January 2005 I mailed him but got no answer. Unfortunately, it has been a "dead" site since March 2004. It still exists but there are no more discussions. You know, lenemarlin.de has been closed. Lene's recent album did not have that success the fans had hoped for. I became a member of this forum in April 2002. Long time the discussions were about the long and patient waiting for Lene's second album. Finally in summer 2003 the new album was announced and released in September of the same year. But German music channels like VIVA and MTV Germany refused to broadcast the clip "You weren't there". Her only hit in Germany was "Sitting down here", but only an airplay hit, not a sales hit.
But Daniel has confirmed it, you should not be surprised too much about German musical taste.
But I decided not to join the mainstream pop/rock if I don't like it, only if I really do like a song. So I say, no matter if she's a star in Germany or not, that's no reason why I wouldn't listen to Lene's songs and voice, because they are really something special. For a girl of her young age a very great achievement. She's one of the few songwriters whose songs would still exist if she would take away all the accompanying instruments. Just imagine, she would sing all the songs accompanied by an acoustic guitar or a piano only, their substance and their charisma would even appear stronger than being accompanied by all the other instruments. Best proofs are the acoustic versions of "Playing my Game", "The Way We Are", "Enough", "Hope You're Happy", "It' All Good", "Sorry" and "I Know".
When I was standing in the CD shop and listening to the song of PMG, I really thought I was absent of this world. I felt like flying. When I listened to "Flown Away", I even had wet eyes, no tears, but somehow it moved me what I had never experienced before.
Is there anyone of you who had the same or similar experiences?
Regards,
Martin.

We all had similar experiences sometimes.
What I'm wondering about Germany (and UK) is that Lene is always Lene. So why didn't they like her this time?
So perhaps I read your name sometimes. I remember there was this forum voice-of-an-angel linked to a German site, it's a pity all this finished. Yes, I remember Sebastian, he was a Sweden of 17 at that time, if I'm well. I mailed him too in 2003 yet. I was wondering why the site wasn't updated any more just some months before Lene finally came back, after we had all waited so long.
Ok, hope you're happy now There's at least this site and lene-marlin.no to keep you all updated.

I guess it was a kind of boykott by medias.
Neither their video clips were played on music channels nor their singles had been played very often on radio, in any case not in my region (around Berlin).
You must know that "Sitting down here" is still played on radio stations nowadays, but radio DJs refuse to mention Lene's name. I can't tell you why.
When I played the CD "Playing my Game" at work, some of my colleagues were surprised about the name. Every one knew the song "sitting .." but no one knew the singer's name.
I don't know if it's a kind of intention. But German music channels rather referred to "artists" like Miss Spears, Aguilera, Kylie Minogue at that time. Maybe Lene would have more success now. But it's a speculation of mine.
What I'm afraid of mostly is that Lene's third album might not be released in Germany. That's one - not the only and main reason - why I joined this forum. Hoping for getting knowledge about the date of release of Lene's next album. I don't demand her to release this year. And we do know that it could last a while but there is no opportunity in Germany for getting information about a date. So I hope for possible news via this site.
Regards,
Martin.

A bit off topic now, but you won't believe it, some time ago I could listen to the song even on NRK P1 (norwegian radio)... Well, I stopped complaining about that. Actually I've never really cared about the charts.
And about getting info on releases in Germany: Virgin.de's site has proven useful in the past. They've been quick as well. No new info though. http://www.virginmusic.de/xml/5/3250857/termine.html
Eh, speaking of which... Exactly one year ago Lene was on German TV (Video posted earlier and downloadable on l-m.no). Maybe you remember: If you checked the site above in those days you might have seen she was supposed to perform AD in a chart show a few days later! She never did. I THOUGHT. Now read this "diary" of a virgin "employee"... http://www.livejournal.com/users/garcon_gerard/185700.html (in german; the section about march)
Edit: Oh sorry, now I've gone completely off topic. |

well I think the problem (in the uk at least) is that there wasn't any advertising... heck I didnt know she had even released a 2nd album until I heard SDH playing on the radio and decided to do a search on the web.. |

I was going through recommended artist on Sophie Zelmani's messageboard. Lene's name came up several times and I did a search. The rest is history. |

Well, we're way off topic, but i might as well chip in.
Back in August 2003, maybe, it was really early in the morning, probably 1.30 or something. My mother was hustling me off to bed, but i still had a download going on on WinMX. It was only going to take 10 minutes or so, so i decided to wait. Then, out of boredom, i did a search on WinMX for Lene, though i wasn't cradling much hope in my heart (i didn't hear a single thing about her those days... i thought she was still hibernating ). Heck it, i saw "You Weren't There [NEW SINGLE!!!]"! I was dumbfounded, honestly. I downloaded it, and did a search on Lene on Yahoo, and, what do you know, amidst Lene's angelic voice, the up-till-now-still-dead site http://www.lenemarlin.com announced news of her new album. Who would've known then that now AD's been in my shelf for a year and a half!
So fragile, just you and me, Barely staying afloat in this blood red sea. The eyes i looked at as jewels of hope, Now hold just despair, how shall we cope? Your feelings crushed, easy to break, A protective shield of love we make. When we realise we shall be free, To entwine in the hands of you and me... |
