Per le batterie mi devo informare meglio, cmq c'era un lettore della Panasonic grande quanto un orologio.

Il chip VS1001 lo ho ordinato su www.yampp.com (è arrivato in 6 giorni dalla Svezia), il resto li ho acquistati in un negozio di elettronica vicino a casa.
Il sistema operativo è creato con AVRGcc, scrivi il programma in C e poi con linux lo compili (c'è anche la versione per Windows).

Probabilmente usava una batteria li-ion proprietaria... immagino...
Quelle pilette piatte a bottone sono deboli persino per i portachiavi a led, figurati un lettore mp3...
