Hmm - so she's avoiding the USA and UK eh? It's Strange how she writes and sings in English, but avoids the English speaking countries.
My loss, here we go again...

Sorry, but if we still don't know about UK, I don't think there are any chances for USA. There have never been, if we exclude that article of 2001 January, 5th: if you remember, her ex manager Arne Svare revealed she had travelled to USA and that there should be a collaboration with an important American songwriter (I'll never forget that article, it was the only time they told us something about Lene's future plans in her period of absence)
Cannot control this... this thing called Lene |

Tell Me about it Dazzy, it really bugs me too. I hope she will come back to the UK, I dont even think that the new album has sold anywhere near the first album - I wonder why? |

She's lost quite a lot of fans around here... they don't really play her videos or songs anyway. Most of the smaller cd shops didn't even have her cd. There wasn't even a single advertistment anywhere here of the "Another Day" album. "Playing My Game" did really well though... don't know if you've heard of it but there's a cd chain store called "Tower Records"... that's the only place that sells her cds.
Over here they probably just liked the tune of "Unforgivable Sinner" (her most famous song here) and it's rather intimidating, rather rebellious kind of lyrics. "You Weren't There" did the best for her new cd so far... though they still rarely played her video. I've not seen it since the end of last year.

thank you guys for all the information...it really sucks that she is not popular in many countries anymore. it's upsetting that the second album didn't do well, also because it was the one she worked on for a long time and it is the first one after unexpected break. but playing my game was very good and successfull, so i guess we almost had to expect this to happen. i mean, her sound has changed a lot and the songs dont dound so playful and innocent anymore...but thats how she is now. i still love her, no matter what she does. |

don't worry!!here in france it's quite the same!!! lene has been famous with sitting down here, playing in all radios all the time, like NRJ... and where i'm headed, becoz of the sound track of a french movie ... herad once unforgivable sinner and that's all .. and for "another day" album,i only heard one time at 2 am on Europe 2,an other radio here...
not so much people like lene marlin here,we must admit that!!! she's not famous, people don't like her music, and prefer what is more "trendy",like britney or i don't know what kind of other beyoncé but i tell you,i don't care!!!! i prefer my best singer to be out of fame, then it's still MY singer !!!
lene marlin will always be a discret person, and that's nice!!please, lene,if you read that, come play in paris!!! PLEASE !!!
I cry my tears But they're not for you Playing a game I know you've done too |

I don't know if we have to worry too much, I see atleast three good opportunities;
First is when she finally starts her live-tour. That will add a lot of publicity and a lot of new fans which again will restart sales on both album #1 and #2..
The other reason is that there for sure will come a new fresh album from Lene sometime in the near future. In my opinion I think that one will smash through with new great hits, again dragging with it both earlier albums. Her potentional is so great that she only need to write one killersong to be worldwide famous :)
A third opportunity that I think is under-exploited by EMI/Virgin is to let other artists do covers of her songs, they could pick almost any of her songs for this since they all have this Lene quality.
The "second reason" interests me; what direction will Lene go, what will she name her songs, what will they be about, how will she be promoted this time?! There are already some indications that I can write about later, but what do you think Lene will do next?!

i hope lene will keep in the same kind of way than she has now...i don't want her to be very famous...it'll be losing this kind of innocence she has,and it's what seduct me 5 years ago...she's very different than all that pop-stars,idol or other star academy peole!!! she has to keep on that way, writing honets song, without extra...she had signed a 5 albims contract, but still she took her time to do another day ... she's kind of free, and that's how we love her... Fame is of course nice for an artist, but according to what i think about lene's character, she don't want it at all ... maybe she will do killersongs(even if she did it allready with unforgivable sinner, sitting down here or where i'm headed),certainly it will bring back new fans, but i don't think they will enjoy completly what is lene's music, and they would certainly give up her 3 months after getting the record!!!the music market made people change their mind faster and faster, from trend to trend ... that's a pity.... where would go songs like "playing my game" which is for me the best of ever??? i think lene has a lot to lose by becoming a pop star, and her true fans as well...
so maybe, the fame will come back, but i don't excpect it and i hope it will stay that way...i want to enjoy my live concert like it should be...for my part, lene's music is something to hear in a friendly and little place, not a big arena with 50.000 people there...maybe why she's not interested that much by the usa.... there won't be new fans coming to her concert if it happens in reduce places...like in paris, teh concert was previewed at La Scene...it's a very little place, for about 100-150 people...it's a cozy place, the farest place you can be from the artist is 15m...thta's perfect for me,and i hope the dates will be given soon...
so,that's my opinion, from a lene fan.the only thing i want it's that she don't turn bad, like it happened with an other band i knew from the beginning(i saw sum41 in november2001,playing a great concert in front of 200 pers.,and some months ago, they had been playing a shitty set,in front of 10.000 pers, mostly little kids, which bought the last album, and think that at 14 years old, they are king of the mosh-pit,and giving you a taste of shit in your mouth when you are leaving the place...
please don't make me relive this with Lene Marlin, who is a real and great artist...
remarks are welcome,we all have differents points of view and dirfferent needs ...
I cry my tears But they're not for you Playing a game I know you've done too |

I don't mind if she's never played on our crap radio stations again - it makes her more unique and special. I don't really care if her album sells only 2 copies in the UK (to me and abidhaq probably). But as I've said before on this forum - what really worries me is if decreasing record sales cause her record company to drop her. Virgin have been known to be quite ruthless in the past.
My loss, here we go again...

Come on, this is getting ridiculous!
There are many, many artists who would go from EMI Virgin before they'd even be dreaming of letting Lene go. There is simply no way this is a realistic approach to the problem (if there is one).
You could read our latest article about estimated income on lene-marlin.no. Even if we're 5 million NKR off in the positive direction, she'd still be earning something like 1 million dollar the last year. And, I'd reckon, even far more for the record company.

I'm not being "ridiculous". The music industry works like most industries. If you work in a factory and earn your company "X" amount of money over a year - then half that amount the year after, don't you think that someone higher up is going to look at you and think "hmm - this person's not really as cost effective as he/she once was - maybe I should sack him/her because as time goes on - he/she's probably going to cost my beloved company money"
I hope I'm wrong - I hope in a years time you'll be posting a new thread saying "Lene get's new deal with record company!" I want her to go on recording and releasing records for years to come! I'm just pescimis.... pesim..... a worrier by nature.

yes, i am very scared that since this aldum didnt do so well she wont continue!! i mean, she has already lost a large number of fans and the music is not played very much, i think that people are bored with this new sound and prefer the old playful one.i have to admit that i prefer the first album too, but i think the second one is still great. some times tho i wished the songs were more like the old ones, probably because i can relate to them more...i'm not sure...but i'll always love her. |

I don't think that Virgin would give up on her so easily... i mean, they spent so much money on her! And anyway... it's their own fault that they refused to give her any publicity or promotions or something...
People (at least that's what i think) like her older songs more cause they were more subdued and depressed, unlike Another Day which is happy and hopeful. You Weren't There did the best cause it still had that lonely, unhappy feel to it... people these days like frustrated and miserable songs better than the nice, happy ones since so many people are facing life problems... you can't count the ones by Britney and company cause those are so-called "in" or "cool" which is really crap cause most of them can't even sing... they use the technology these days to cover up for their terrible voices...
Lene has great vocals and strong lungs... she's going to make it through, no matter what the people say, cause she's not all hard up for the money... she didn't really fancy the fame during "Playing My Game", did she? She's doing this cause she's got pure talent, and not cause she's got no other things to do...
She's wonderful. The best singer ever. I will always love Lene Marlin.

The EMI director Per E. Johansen said in front of the release of Another Day last September, that he and the company had no particular expectations at all, and wanted to lower the public's expectations as well.
If you're going to be pessimistic, please try to base it on something even remotely related to facts.

hey.......don't worry!!!! virgin will never give up Lene!!!even if she's no selling as much as Madonna, they still have money to do with her!!!!there are still fans..sure,i prefer me too "Playing my game",but still she has 3 others albums to do with virgin!!! and with he success of PMG,AD is going well too!!! no,we have to think about unknown band, but still signed up!!!a friend of mine is listening black-metal,which is not courant and not so accessible for all kind of public!!!but there are a lot of cd's out in that style, and still now!!!ok,it's sure thta these companies have less soucy of money than virgin ou universal!!! but as many said in this topic, lene will have a long and great life of music!!!
