I've translated Norwegian TV2's broadcast of their discussion about Lene's 1st single, from 31.07.03; enjoy: ------------------------------------------------------------------ TV2 "Just Now", 31.07.03
You weren't there review + general comments about Lene Marlin -------------------------------------------------------------------
Program hostess Kristine Korme (KK): The artist Lene Marlin started talking again today, and the event is the launch of her latest single, "You Weren't There". And if this was worth the wait of three years, you be the judge!
(YWT Video plays, the complete song)
KK: Yes, welcome Thomas Strzelecki (TL), TV2's reviewer. What do you think, a long-awaited Lene Marlin?
TL: I have dreaded this day, like the rest of Norway's population; should this fare okay, like, is it good enough? And, it holds a long way! I'm deeply impressed by this come-back, and the song is a "grower", it just grows each time; beautiful! Melancholic, and...I have a great sense of Lene. Yes, this really holds a long way!
KK: Will this be as well recieved as the other one, you think...the first one I mean?
TL: I do believe so, people have been waiting down on the continent; in Italy they're screaming for her, so I think this is going to fare equally well, and if she follows up with a second single which also has a hit potential, it will go all the way home! She has three years of trauma to pick from, so she's got a lot of material!
KK: A lot of lyrics material?
TL: A lot of lyrics material, yes!
KK: You mentioned three years of trauma, and it's no doubt that the success she originally had, she experienced it quite traumatically, and then I wonder; aren't there anyone in the business who take care of such a young talent whom just appears and gets to be really big?
TL: Yes, there are; I think they have done a too well done job! They have made her look too miserable; I think, it became too much for a young girl from Tromsø, but don't put her away, hide her under the duvet, but instead say "okay, this is part of the game, you have to deal with the press, with the audience, management and the record company". They're just doing a job, and she's also doing a job, I do think they have made her look too miserable, perhaps, done it erroneously. They should have put her back into the limelight earlier than three years, perhaps, but everything's okay now, it seems.
KK: Yes, now it's all well...
TL: Let's hope so!
KK: This self chosen, or the record company's, silence over such a long time period; one may start to wonder and get very cynical and say "well, this is just a PR gimmick"?
TL: One may do just that, but...well, I know the people behind her somewhat, and they are not that cruel! I do believe, actually, that she had made this choice on her own, she just couldn't deal with the press and the audience, or the record company, but now she's grown into it. I don't think she can get back to that again, because people will get tired of her whining; if she wants to be a pop star, she's just going to deal with it; after all it's just about performing in front of people and talking to the press. We are not that bad, the audience are not that bad, and the record companies are far from cruel.
KK: And the expectations get to be extremely high when you've spent three years under the duvet? They sure don't get to be any less?
TL: Yes, but I think she's handled that part well; I'm glad I'm not Lene Marlin, this is going to go very well; everyone wants this to go well, it's not like Lene Nystrøm, where everybody takes out their butcher's knife and wants to kill her. Everyone want things to go well for Lene, and it will! She's going to surf through the whole year, it's going to be Lene's year, I think.
KK: The PR strategy; first 25 interviews on the radio today, tomorrow it's the newspapers, and then we in television coming lastly on Saturday. It's quite a special affair?
TL: Yes, this is calculated and cynical! This is really cynical, I think. They have prioritized strangely, and chosen to not select some of the magazines and printed media which ought to get their part, I think, the young fans who read these magazines they don't get to...yes, it's kind of strange. But they get full disbursement in shortest time, which they want, but they have prioritized wrongly, in my opinion, but that's not Lene's fault, it's the management and the record company.
KK: The forces around her?
TL: Yes!
KK: Thanks Thomas!

Also, if you go to www.lene-marlin.no , you can enjoy a previously unprinted major interview with Lene, translated to English, taken from 15 minutes of uncut video. A must read, if you ask me :)

Thank you, I read all and posted a topic in the Italian forum about the article in lene-marlin.no But the discussion above is not related to the article, right? (it was two days before the interview with Lene) So why didn't you post it on lene-marlin.no before

Marko, I didn't have access to either of these interviews before Saturday (30.08). I thought I could just post the discussion here in this forum, but leave the larger interview with her as a news posting on www.lene-marlin.no .
The interview had a somewhat "exclusive" touch to it; so as to promote lene-marlin.no a bit as well :)

Ah ok. But I meaned you should post everything there. I talked with memo today. The last thing we want is competition. For us it's already a great thing that you translate in English, it doesn't matter where you post.

I'm not sure if I understand this, I didn't mean to enhance competition or anything. I just thought the discussion from 31.07.03 was unsuitable for a news item, it's kind of old and Lene wasn't a direct part in it (it's a TV review).
And since we have no forums yet, I just posted it here. I could also have posted everything here, but perhaps a lot of cross-posting isn't that good either. I didn't really think a lot about it.
